Week 13B - Source

For my second source this week I decided to use an article titled "Social Media Cyber Bullying Linked to Teen Depression." The article was written by Stephanie Pappas and provides a new outlook for me and my writing. Although this article is similar to other ones I have used in the past I found this outlook new and refreshing. Although this article talks a lot about all the same things my past articles do, this article pulls on the readers heart strings while providing the hard facts. The article discusses how it's a major problem in todays society but no one does anything about it. The problem is so diverse and unique under every circumstance because the technology is advancing too fast to keep up with. It's because of this that victims often suffer in silence and because of this the problem is disguised or isn't understood.     Out of all of my pas...

Week 13A - Source

For my first source assignment this week I choose an article written by Bahati Russel titled" Cyber Bullying and Social Media." In this article the author discusses how cyber bullying is a much bigger issue than society wants to admit. The author talks a lot about how words really do have the power to hurt and cause damage. The article also discusses what cyberbullying is and how it is much more than what people often think. A major point the author makes is how common bullying on social media is and how if you are faced with this problem in your life, you're not alone. Social media has been at a constant uprise with new apps popping up all of the time. Social media is proving a place that this kind of harmful activity can take place.     I have found this article to be extremely helpful to me when writing my essay because, it allows me to play on my readers emotions. It links those who have...

Week 12B - Source

For my second source assignment this week I found my self at a loss for a good source to use for my specific argumentive paper. Luckily, after dedicated searching, I found an article written by Monica Anderson titled "A Majority of Teens Have Experienced Some Form of Cyberbullying." Within the article,"?" the author discusses a survey done in the United States in 2018, in which they found that 59% of the teenagers from the study said they had experienced cyberbullying through social media. The article also discusses that through the survey they found a majority of the teenagers think that teachers, parents and social media companies are failing to address how major this issue really is.     For my paper, I am researching whether or not having a social media presence increases the risk of being bullied. As far as my argument comes, I am arguing that yes indeed a social media presence does increase the risk of being bullied. In the article, the author states ...

Week 12A - Source

For my source assignment this week I chose the article " Depressed adolescents' positive and negative use of social media." This article was written by four authors and discusses a study done among twenty-three adolescents who were diagnosed with depression and how their presence on social media may have influenced their physiological distress. All twenty-three of the adolescents discussed them positive and negatives of being on social media, all of the teenagers brought up and discussed cyberbullying. They all linked their depression to social media and even more so linked it to cyberbullying.    I believe that this article will be useful for my argumentative paper because it provides specific evidence that a presence on social media causes bullying and can even lead to depression. It can also lead to other forms of psychological distress. It doesn't always push to depression but light forms of it can be formed because of the bullying that takes place on social ...

Week 11B - Source

For my second source assignment this week the article I choose was " Longer hours on social media may increase teens risk of cyberbullying"  and was written by Eva Szunyogova.  In this article the author is looking at studies and research projects from over 7 European countries and looking for the connection between a social media presence and a bullying increase. This article discusses the connection between bullying and social media. The article links the two of them together as cyberbullying. The article claims the problem is the difference of generation from parent to child and how fast internet use is rising. The parents from an older generation have problems keeping up so teaching children how to act accordingly and adding guidelines proves difficult.     I have found this article vital to my argument that having a social media presence increases the risk of being bullied. It is no coincidence that since social media has arose that bullying h...

Week 11A - Source

For my source assignment for my blog post this week I read an article titled Associations between social media and cyberbullying: a review of literature. This article is about how cyberbullying has become such a problem it has turned into a public health issue, it is increasing the risk of mental health and suicide. Social media has changed the way teenagers interact with each other and this article argues that it has changed it in the worst way. It is much easier to be rude and harmful to someone when you are hiding being a screen and don't have to say the words to someone's face. The article also contains statistics and facts from multiples studies showing how many people have been affected in cyberbullying or have played a part in it somehow.   The topic I have chosen to argue is that having a social media presence increases bullying and the chance of being bullied. This article provides statistics to back up my argument. For example, a study listed in the article states...
